Ruff-it Acrylic sculpture surfacing is not plaster or
paint! It's an entirely new acrylic formulation, which will
add a deep permanent character to any wall in your home. The
acrylic and solids content of Ruff-it provide excellent crack
filling and bridging capabilities not found in plaster or textured
paint. The formulation also ensures both crack and yellowing
resistance. Most importantly, Ruff-it allows a long working
time (3-4 hours depending on humidity) so you can change your mind
and make changes until it's just right.
Ruff-it can be applied to almost any clean, dry, non-oily,
stable surface such as plasterboard, fibrolite, plywood, concrete
block, cement or metal. If the surface has been oil-stained
or has residue from wallpaper glue or is raw wood, it should be
primed first with a coat of OIL BASED PRIMER. Priming will
substantially reduce the chance of discolouration or stains
'bleeding' through and marring the finished job. Concrete /
Blockwork apply 1 coat of ACRYLIC PRIMER SEALER.
Only use EXTERIOR Ruff-it in bathrooms or other areas with
extreme moisture or high humidity. Protect Ruff-it from water
while drying. Avoid prolonged contact with bare skin.
A 10 litre container will cover approximately 5 - 10 m² (53 -
107 sq. ft) depending on the thickness of application and the
porosity of the application surface. Ruff-it should not be
applied over wall paper. Gib Board should have a light
undercoat applied before application. Wide cracks and gaps
should be taped or filled with a filler before application.
Apply Ruff-it at temeratures above room temperature (13°C or
55°F)
After your new Ruff-it creation has dried completely
(approximately 3 days) it should be sealed. The sealer should
be an acrylic paint of your colour choice or a coat of transparent
C-SEALER. This will substantially improve your ability to
remove stains, finger prints and grease marks caused by spills or
other normal household accidents. During
application Ruff-it will wash off with warm water whilst it is
wet. All tools and spills can also be washed clean in warm
water. Once Ruff-it has dried it is extremely difficult to
remove from clothing.
Because Ruff-it has such a long working time it really allows
you to experiment with various texturing techniques until you can
achieve the effect you've been striving for. Most effects are
best achieved by spreading the product to a uniform thickness first
and then texturing, but you may want to simply smear it on the wall
and leave it.
